Here are three of Asha’s favourite recipes:
#1 Anaemia Fighter Salad
- Squeeze a lemon
- Sprinkle oregano
Slice the tomatoes and beets (lightly boil if you don’t enjoy the peculiar taste of beet).
Lemon helps with the iron absorption. This salad is great for fighting anaemia and bringing your hemoglobin levels up.
#2 Instant Coolant
- Hand-torn Mint
Makes the perfect coolant for a summer noon time snack. And you don’t feel guilty of adding any calories!
#3 Pre-dinner Chopped Salad
- Spring onions or plain onions
- Red & yellow capsicums
- Boiled mushrooms
- Plain boiled pasta
- A boiled eggs
- Diet bhel
- Lightly sprinkle oregano
- Add pomegranate to the salad to add crunch and a unique flavour
“When I come home from working out (zumba/yoga/swim), I’m starving. So I rustle up a bowl of chopped salad (pre-chopped by the cook in the morning). And I simply mix ‘n match whatever I find in the fridge!
Avoid mooli (raddish) – somehow the flavour doesn’t gel with the salad. Or perhaps, it’s just because I’m not too fond of it (except for parathas!!!). Pick up anything or everything from the add-ons to ensure your salad tastes different every single evening. Chomp on a huge bowl. Get into the shower. Your digestive juices would’ve started acting on the salad and you will end up eating a moderate dinner!
Surprise yourself. Keep innovating with salads and fruit. It’s an awesome way to reward yourself J. And very gratifying if you manage to do so in a healthy way!”
