The US Bureau Census report says that almost three-quarters of older men and about two-thirds of women over age 64 are overweight or obese. This stats is alarming as it means that this segment of society is more prone to Diabetes, Arthritis and impaired mobility. It is a really worry that due to demographic changes in the country the older population doesn't have anyone to look after them. With healthcare costs rising sharply the report mentioned that nearly two-thirds can't even afford a year of nursing home care. It also highlighted the fact that older men and women are increasingly participating in the labor force. The 65 yrs and older population in US is now over 40 million and is expected to more than double by 2050.
