Ayurveda provides the best solution to maintain vitality in this zapping summer.

During greeshma ritu (summer season) Kapha dosha decreases day by day and Vata increases.
*Food which is easy to digest is recommended during summer as digestive fire remains low during this season.
*Limit the intake of spicy, salty and sour food items.
*Sweet, sour and bitter taste is best suited during this season.
*Minimum 2.5 litres of water should be consumed daily. Drink water even if you are not thirsty. Water kept in muds pots can be used for drinking.
*Lemon juice, coconut water and butter milk are best recommended during summer.
*Minimize the consumption of tea, coffee; instead substitute it with butter milk and pitta pacifying diet in order to keep the body cool.
*Wheat and its products tend to increase body heat, so limit its use and instead, substitute it with rice and rice products.
*To keep the energy levels high, meat soups and mutton soups are beneficial.
*Garlic, hot pepper and chillies can be avoided as they tend to increase body heat.
*Seasonal fruits like jack fruit, tomato, watermelon, mango, grapes, banana and cucumber should be consumed more.
*Vegetables which have more water content can be included as part of daily diet.
*Asparagus, cabbage, green leafy vegetables are recommended during summer.
*”Ushnam Ushnena Shanthi”. Stay away from iced beverages and alcohol. Cold sweet drinks increase your thirst and do not quench it.
*Taking bath twice a day is recommended. Tulsi leaves and rose water can be added to the bath water for
long lasting freshness.
*To prevent dry skin, alkaline soaps have to be avoided and instead green gram flour can be used.
*Use of medicated bath powders, honey wax and coconut oil will be beneficial during summer.
*Wear loose fitting, cotton and light coloured clothes.
*Physical exertion and exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Avoid excessive sweating and wet skin to prevent prickly heat.
*Limit sexual activity during summer.
*Day sleep is permitted during summer.
*Ayurvedic herbs like sandalwood, brahmi, amla and aloe vera are recommended which can combat the summer heat.
*Ayurvedic formulations recommended to regain energy include Sarivadyasavam, Draksharishtam, Ashwagandharishtam, Dashamoolarishtam, Ushirasavam, Chandanasavam etc.
*Use of medicated oils like Bala guluchyadi, Bala dhatryadi, Triphaladi and Kaiyyonyadi is beneficial to keep the head cool.
*Doorvadi and Pinda tailam are the best to keep skin healthy.
*Shatavari gulam and Ajaashwagandhadi lehyam are highly beneficial for women during summer.
