How to Prevent and Treat Bed Sores the Ayurvedic Way!
Bed sores are the soft tissue damage caused due to constant pressure and friction in bedridden and wheelchair dependent patients. It is also known as pressure sores and decubitus ulcer.
Bed sores usually occur in your lower back, buttocks, hips, knees, elbows and heels.
It is usually seen in patients who are comatose, paralysed, lack of sensory perception, urinary or bowel incontinence, wasting disorders. Malnutrition, smoking, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes increase the chances of tissue damage.

Prevention of Bed Sores
  • Examine your skin daily by yourself or ask your caregiver to inspect your skin regularly to spot bedsores early.
  • Regularly clean your skin with mild soap and dry it with a smooth towel.
  • Apply talcum powder in the pressure area to keep it dry.
  • Try to change your position once in awhile.
  • If you are able to sit, try sitting up occasionally.
  • Support your bony area with a cushion.
  • Use water-filled or air-filled specialised mattress.
  • Try to do simple physical activities depending on your ability.
  • Eat healthy and nutritious food. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking sufficient amount of fluids.

Home Remedies for Bed Sores
  • Clean the wounds with saline water or Triphala or panchatiktam kashayam.
  • Apply aloe vera gel with pure turmeric.
  • If you have dry skin, massage with coconut oil daily to improve circulation.
  • You can do wound dressing with Jatyadi ghrita.
  • Sprinkle tankana bhasma on the sores.

Internally you can take Guduchi, Neem, Turmeric, Triphala, Triphala guggulu, Kaishora guggulu, Guggulutiktaka kashayam, etc can be taken.
