This study conducted by University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences showed that there is a link between the sleeping habits of parents and their child’s weight issues. The amount of sleep that a child gets is directly related to the number of hours the parents sleep. If the routine involves waking up till late watching TV or chitchatting, then the child’s sleep time is reduced thereby affecting his/ her health. While staying awake till late sometimes one gets into the habit of munching on snacks which also adds on to more calorie intake. The unwanted weight gain due to poor food choices coupled with lack of exercise and sleep loss set the stage for obesity. Therefore a healthy family is the result of a balance of good nutrition, exercise and good sleep.
