  • Anyone can be affected by this, be it adults or children. However the latter are at a greater risk.
  • Common cold is harmless to the body and so are the effects of common cold. It is completely curable.
  • The recovery period lasts almost 10 days and not treating it in time may make this period difficult for you.
  • For treating the common cold, one does not need to go very far. The best treatment for the common cold is available at home itself.
  • In case infection becomes bad, Ayurvedic cures may help you.
Symptoms of Common Cold
  • Issue in the Respiratory Tract: The first signs of common cold are sinus pain, sore throat and cough. If untreated, you may experience runny nose, wheezing and breathlessness.
  • Fever: Fever may reach as high as 101.3 F in adults and 99 - 100.4F in kids. Chills or tremors are generally not experienced.
  • Full Body Ache: It is common to experience muscle cramps and joint pains. Once the treatment is over, this may linger on for a few days.
  • Difficult to concentrate: Common cold slows down the brain function as it makes you excessively drowsy. Headaches are part and parcel of it. Concentrating on tasks can become difficult due to brain fog.
Causes of Common Cold
  • Common cold infection is caused by Rhinovirus.
  • It is an air-borne disease and can travel from one infected person to a healthy person.

  • Ayurvedic treatment for common cold and fever: Ayurveda uses yogic asanas and herbal formulations to treat common cold. It is safe for both the adults and children.
  • Natural immune response of the body is stimulated which fights off the microbes and eliminates inflammatory enzymes from the blood.
Prevention is better than Cure for Common Cold
  • Practice Good Personal Hygiene: Washing hands often with soap and water, social distancing when in contact with an infected person and wearing masks are some easy ways to prevent the infection for yourself. If you are allergic to dust, pollen, etc. it is imperative that you wear a mask.
  • Vitamin C: Low immunity is a common reason for common cold. Citrus fruits contain Vitamin C which boosts up the white blood cells count and naturally eliminates free radicals. Consume fruits like orange, kiwi, lemon, grapefruit etc.
  • Stay Hydrated: Flushing out toxins from the body is highly important as cold causing microbes are also flushed out in the process. Drink 2-3 litres of water daily. During a change in season, drink something warm like herbal teas, soups, etc.
  • Cleanliness is Godliness: Common cold is highly contagious. Being air-borne it travels really fast. Thus it is important to keep the surrounding clean and sanitised. In a public place avoid touching your eyes, mouth, nose or ears unless your hands are washed.
  • Exercise: As this virus attacks the upper respiratory tract, exercise daily to strengthen it. De-stress yourself and do Yoga.
