With winter here, there is only one thing that comes to everyone’s mind - And unfortunately, it is not the icy snow or picturesque landscapes!
None of us are unaware of the seasonal body aches, sore throat, runny nose and fever that plagues us in the winters. But the cause of your troubles does not lie in just the weather. There are just about 200 virus strains that can be the suspects for your common cold. Rhinovirus is the most typical culprit.
Common colds caused by the Rhinovirus, can be easily mistaken for the flu (influenza) because of the similar symptoms. So, here’s how to check whether you have the common cold or influenza:
Common cold can produce mild fever going up to maximum 101 °F, which continues for 2 - 3 days. But the flu can give you severe fever usually lingers on for 3-5 days.
Typical flu symptoms include muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue (tiredness). However, common cold is not likely to produce such troubles.
So your common cold can recede within a few days, but till then it can cause you a lot of trouble.
Who can catch a Common Cold and Fever
There is no escaping from the common cold if you don’t take proper precautions. But even then you could be prone to catching it, if you belong to any of the following groups:
Age: There’s no age in which you can’t catch the common cold. Yet, you would be at more risk than others if you are elderly. Children under 6 years of age are equally susceptible.
Poor Immunity: Prolonged sickness or improper nutrition can let down your guard against germs, increasing your chances of getting respiratory infections.
Smoking: More than anything else, cigarettes can hamper your respiratory functions and increase instances of viral infection.
Season: It is a given fact that you are more in danger of catching a cold during winters and autumn than summer or spring. The low temperature of these seasons promotes virus growth.
Contact with the Sick: Direct contact with an infected person through touch or close interaction can expose you to the virus.
Don’t let another instance of cold or fever get the better of you. Let Ayurveda protect you!
