Natural Herbs Not Always Safe for Pregnant Women

Most of us are looking at herbal supplements as alternatives to traditional medicine. Being natural herbs it is assumed that these remedies are harmless and are okay to be consumed.

However, some herbal medicines are to be avoided unless advised by the doctor. That is more so for pregnant women. They are risky to be consumed and can lead to miscarriage, premature labor and even birth defects in the baby. The natural herbs at times also interfere with the working of the regular medications. Certain herbs like Peppermint leaf, Ginger root and Lemon balm are generally considered safe for use. They help to relieve nausea, vomiting and anxiety. On the other hand, herbs like Ephedra, Yohimbe, Passion Flower amongst others are to be kept clear of. Before consuming any kind of herbal supplement it is best to get a positive nod from a physician who has a thorough knowledge of these herbs.
