Natural Remedies For Bone Spur And Heel Spur

Before we discuss the different natural remedies for bone spur and heel spur, let us first understand what they are:

Bone spurs:
A bone spur is also known as osteophyte. It is a benign bony growth that takes place along the joints or edges of the bones. A bone spur can develop on any part of the bone but they are more usually observed on the joints of the bone. Bone spurs are not found on the part of the bone where muscles, ligaments as well as tendons. Bone spurs are formed to when a certain part of the body is damaged because of injury, arthritis or other problems to manage weight better. Bone spur is body’s way of reducing the strain from the damaged part. Bone spurs can be observed in spine as well as on the toes, feet and heels. We will later discuss about the natural remedies for bone spur.

Heel spurs:
The heel bone is the biggest bone in the human body and it is responsible to absorb lot of shock as well as pressure. A heel spur is an unnatural growth of this heel bone. Calcium deposit occurs when the plantar fascia pulls away from the area about the heel leading to the development of a bony bump. The plantar fascia is the thick connective tissue which supports the arch of the foot. Heel spurs may be extremely painful while performing activities like walking or running and even standing.

Natural remedies for bone spur and heel spur:

1. Epsom Salt:
When you start facing excessive pain in the bone spur, any form of strenuous physical activity will cause inflammation and lead to a more painful situation. To reduce pain and stress in extreme situations take a warm Epsom salt bath.  It is one of the natural remedies for bone spur that will ease the pain. After the Epsom salt warm bath get a gentle massage. You can also consult your physician for a physical therapy.

2. Omega 3 essential fatty acids:
Omega 3 essential fatty acids are beneficial natural remedies for bone spur in reducing inflammation. Try and supplement your diet with 1000 mg Omega 3 essential fatty acids two times in a day to reduce pain related to bone spurs.

3. Capsaicin:
Creams with capsaicin are helpful natural remedies for bone spur and heel spur that provide relief. Capsaicin is the ingredient responsible for the heat in hot peppers. Capsaicin may cause a little stinging sensation for a short while but it does benefit in heel and bone spurs. Do not apply this cream with bare hands use a glove to avoid stinging sensation in the fingers.

4. Curcumin (yellow pigment of turmeric) herbal tablets:
Take about 500 mg of turmeric herbal in the morning on empty stomach will help reduce inflammation and act as natural remedies for bone spur and heel spur. You can also add turmeric powder to foods to reduce the inflammation/pain from a bone or heel spur.

5. Flaxseed heat pack:
Apply a flaxseed heat pack to reduce the inflammation related to bone spurs. To make a Flaxseed heat pack, heat little Flaxseeds and wrap the seeds in a clean cloth. Wrap this pack around the affected area. Leave the heat pack till stay on until it is no longer warm. Repeat these natural remedies for bone spur four to five times in a day.

6. Ice Pack
Another natural remedies for bone spur is the ice pack. You can wrap ice cubes in a dish towel and place it on the bone and heel spur. The cool sensation of the ice reduces the inflammation and swelling.

7. Linseed Oil:
Dip a cheese cloth in linseed oil to make natural remedies for bone spur and heel spurs. Wrap this cloth around the heel and let it stay there for couple of hours.
