Using a copper cup is very healthy. It purifies blood. It removes toxins from body. It is good for skin, and heart. It reduces all the three doshas.

It is believed that to prevent Asthma, one should drink water which has been kept overnight in a copper vessel. This water, with traces of copper in it, is believed to change one’s constitutional tendency to get respiratory problems.

However, when using a copper cup, make sure that you rinse & scrub well during washing and ensure that there are no deposits or precipitates. Copper sulphate coating of unclean vessel can cause vomiting.

Apart from the effects on the respiratory system, its effects are visibly seen on the reproductive system as well. Purified copper in a prescribed dosage is a well known ayurvedic drug for conditions like obesity, diseases of the liver and infertility. Copper is an anti microbial and also helps in improving the immune system

The benefits also come with some cautions:

  1. Do not store any sour substances in a copper vessel. It turns poisonous.
  2. If you have decided to drink water from a copper vessel throughout the day, then follow the habit for 3 months and then give a break period of 3 months. This break period allows the body to get rid of excessive copper that may be harmful for the system.
