According to a recent study conducted, Yogic Breathing like Sudarshan Kriya Yoga is the best stress reliever for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

PTSD is a mental condition that follows after witnessing or being a part of a terrifying incident like vehicle accident, sexual abuse, war, natural disaster or any near death experience. With PTSD one usually feels depressed, extremely anxious, fearful, starts self loathing and unwanted horrifying images of the incident keep playing in the mind. Sudarshan Kriya or controlled breathing affects the autonomous nervous system (ANS). The hallmark of PTSD is hyper arousal which means overreacting to innocuous stimuli. Eye blink startle rate is an involuntary response by our body and is used to measure one component of hyper arousal. The study involved 21 soldiers with an active group of 11 and a control group of 10. Respiration and eye blink startle were measured during the study.
