Gynaecomastia is a condition where there is enlargement of breast in males due to an imbalance in testosterone and oestrogen hormones.
Causes of Gynaecomastia

  • Hormonal variations during puberty and old age.
  • Hypogonadism.
  • Hyperthyroidism.
  • Certain disease conditions like tumors, liver and kidney failure.
  • Poor nutrition level.
  • Few medicines like steroids, antibiotics, medicines used in treating cardiovascular and psychological conditions.
  • Drugs and alcohol abuse.

Symptoms of Gynaecomastia

  • Swollen breasts.
  • Few may experience pain, tenderness, and discharge.

Management of Gynaecomastia

  • If gynaecomastia is caused due to underlying disease and you have pain, tenderness with discharge, you need to undergo proper treatment for the same. Otherwise, no treatment is needed, it will regress on its own over time.
  • If you are feeling embarrassed, attend counselling sessions and talk to your family and friends about your issue openly.
  • If gynaecomastia is due to fat accumulation, diet and exercise will be definitely helpful.
  • If you have a hormonal deficiency, you can consult an Ayurvedic physician and start using medicines like Gokshura, Shilajit, Ashwagandha, etc., under guidance.
  • Other treatment options available are liposuction and mastectomy.
