A recent study conducted suggests that the gut microbes in our body may have influence on our food eating habits. The researchers said that while certain bacteria prefer fats, there are certain bacteria that prefer sugars. Though not clearly understood as to how the microbes affect our food choices; it is believed that the gut dwellers send molecular signals to the immune and the nervous system. These signals could in turn influence our physiologic and behavioral differences. The good news is that since these microorganisms are manipulative, they can be altered to suit our choices. So apart from aiding in digestion, the gut microbes also assist with our food choices.
